Task
Step 1: You and your group are being asked to investigate one of the prominent thinkers (philosophes) of the Enlightenment for the online version of "The New York Times." The editor of online media at the Times wants you and your team to create either a comprehensive essay, movie trailer, podcast, or political cartoon that shows how either a monarch, a bishop or an economic advisor would view the ideas of the prominent philosophe you are researching. How would a particular King or Queen react to your philosophes ideas? How would a church official feel about your philosophes theories. How would an economic advisor explain to his ruler the effects of your philosophes point of view. The editor wants your content to specifically show how the philosophe impacted either government, religion, or the economy with their thoughts and ideas. How did they contribute to the specific area? The editor of the Times wants your finished cartoon to demonstrate the following information on the Philosophe you have been assigned:
Step 2: Using your information from your research, your group will create your own content. Choose which topic you want to focus on; government, religion, or economics. Please take a look at the slideshow below as there are examples of political cartoons. This is an opportunity for you to be creative! Your content should express how Enlightenment thinkers changed the world. What were they famous for? What does this person symbolize? What part of our lives is this person still responsible for today? You 2 days in class so please take your time in deciding how you want to organize your content and BE CREATIVE!!!
Step 3: After you complete your content you will now be an expert on your particular philosophe. As an expert you will present your content to the rest of the class and myself before we can all agree to push this through to the public.
EXAMPLES OF CONTENT
- The name of, location, and time period the philosophe was active.
- A brief overview of his government, religious, or economic thoughts.
- Did they publish any significant works?
- Summarize the key ideas that make up the philosophies of your assigned thinker.
- Please look at the rubric on the Evaluation page!
